Gig Harbor Re-Build

This Gig Harbor, WA 1950's post-war minimalist home was in desperate need of rehabilitation and more space for a growing family.
The second story addition adds 850 sq. ft. of tall and open space, spilling out onto a 220 sq. ft. roof top deck over the original garage. The upper "Flex" room has 12' tall ceilings and is a multi-use space, including a reading loft, kitchenette and on-suite full bath. The design is focused around this unique great room capturing the vast view of Gig Harbor and Mt. Rainier, along with high-lighting the corner connection to the roof top deck.
Structurally the addition needed to carry much of it's own weight loads, so an exposed post and concrete base detail was develope, with 11 stained doug fir columns. Salvaged ship-lap wood from the original roof was saved and re-invented as the stiarcase screen wall. Attention to minimalist details are evident in how multiple materials connect, void of trim.
